Patriots Outlast Titans, Finish 12-4

December 31, 2006

The Patriots closed out the season with a win today, pulling away from the pesky Tennessee Titans and winning by a final score of 40-23.  The Titans kept it close until the 4th quarter, when the Patriots finally put the game away with two touchdowns in the final stanza.

Tom Brady did play, and play well, passing for 225 yards and a 62-yard touchdown pass to Reche Caldwell in the third quarter.  Although the game didn’t mean much to the Patriots, depending on what the Colts do tonight, they did go into the playoffs on a roll and even got all three of their quarterbacks into the game.

If you’d like to see the Patriots continue their season, go to StubHub.com and search for NFL playoff tickets - the Patriots “real” season starts now.

Update - No Wilfork For Patriots Today

December 31, 2006

Although he was expected to play, it turns out that the Patriots have de-activated DL Vince Wilfork against the Titans.  This is the third consecutive game that Wilfork has missed, and it’s apparent that his sprained ankle is not yet ready for the rigors of an NFL game in the trenches.

It’s certain that the Patriots are hoping to rest Wilfork today so that he’ll be available full-force for their playoff game next weekend.

Unlike 2005, This Finale Matters

December 31, 2006

Fans will remember the Patriots’ final regular season game a year ago, when New England basically tanked their regular season finale against the Dolphins.  The game was entertaining, though, as backup QB Doug Flutie scored on a drop-kick and several young players got valuable experience heading into the playoffs.  The loss actually helped the Patriots gain a matchup against the Jaguars, whom the Patriots handled with ease on the opening weekend of the playoffs.

This year, however, the Patriots really could use a win against the Titans.  If things fall the right way, a Pats’ win coupled with a Colts loss to the Dolphins would give the Patriots the #3 seed in the AFC and a game against the Jets instead of the Broncos.  Even though it’s unlikely that the Cleo Lemon-led Dolphins will march into the RCA Dome and steal one against the heavily-favored Colts, that game won’t be played until the Patriots are finished today, meaning that the team has to go for the “W” and hope for the best.

If you’d like to see these Patriots attempt to get back to the Super Bowl, head to StubHub.com and grab your NFL playoff tickets.

Wilfork to Return vs. Titans

December 30, 2006

Although the game against the Titans this weekend means little to the Patriots in terms of standings or playoff seeding, the team will get a boost on its defense with the return of Vince Wilfork.  Wilfork has missed the team’s last two games after spraining his ankle against the Dolphins.

The biggest reason the team is happy to have Wilfork back is because of the need for him to get some game work before the playoffs begin.  He’s a vital cog to the Patriots’ tough run D, and the last thing they wanted was for him to head into the playoffs rusty.  Wilfork probably won’t play his usual number of snaps, but this will be a good test to measure his recovery.

If you’d like to see the game, all you need to do is go to StubHub.com and pick out your Patriots tickets.

Kight Latest Example of How Performance Matters in New England

December 30, 2006

The Patriots are credited with establishing a new model of roster building in the NFL.  This strategy has allowed them to build the latest NFL dynasty, and an item in the Boston Globe today serves as yet another example of how the Patriots tend to look past combine workouts, 40-yard-dash times and hype when deciding who’s going to play and who isn’t.

WR Kelvin Kight has been moving up the depth chart in New England, and he made his first start last week against Jacksonville.  Kight has bounced around the league a bit after coming into the NFL in 2004 as an undrafted free agent, but his “status” has not prevented the coaching staff from giving him a shot.

This is just one example of why the Patriots are the gold standard of the NFL.  It doesn’t matter to them where a player comes from or how much recognition he receives in college or with his prior team.  If he can play and contribute, he will play and contribute.  If more teams around the NFL looked at production as a priority, there would be less mediocrity.  As it stands now, playoff tickets will once again be available in New England, and that’s not an accident.

New England Patriots vs. Tennessee Titans Updates

December 29, 2006

There are a few quick updates for New England Patriots fans who are awaiting this weekend’s game against the Tennessee Titans and the NFL playoffs. First things first, New England Patriots Playoff Tickets are available through Stubhub.com for anywhere from $108 and up. The Patriots still don’t know who they will be playing in the first round of the playoffs.

Second, it is looking more and more like Tom Brady may be sitting out Sunday’s season finale. Patriots backup quarterback Matt Cassel took snaps today at practice and Tom Brady didn’t show up for the second day in a row says the Boston Globe. Brady has played in 104 consecutive games and is currently listed as probable for Sunday’s game with a right shoulder injury. Fans should not stress out as Brady has had this status attached to his name going into nearly every single game this season.

Then again, reports are stating that Brady’s shoulder got dinged up in Sunday’s match against the Jacksonville Jaguars. “I bruise easily,” said Brady.

Is Tom Brady the Greatest QB Ever?

December 29, 2006

Although there’s no way to objectively decide the best QB in history, or the best player at any other position, one could make a strong argument that Tom Brady is already among the elite QB’s in the history of the game.  Obviously, the first thing that jumps out in regards to Brady is his three Super Bowl titles.  He burst onto the scene in 2001 by winning his first title, and has continued to dominate since.

However, the greatness of Brady is personified perhaps in its greatest detail on any given Sunday.  Although Brady’s statistics are good, but not unbelievable, his true value is shown by the way that the Patriots are in every game, every season and every form of contention simply because #12 is on the field.  No player since Joe Montana has inspired this level of fear in opponents as the game winds down, and Brady is not yet 30 years old.

See for yourself by securing New England Patriots tickets - if Brady isn’t the best of all time now, he very well could be by the time he retires.

Should We Count Out the Patriots? No Way

December 29, 2006

As it stands, it appears that the New England Patriots will have to come from off the pace to get back to another Super Bowl.  The AFC is loaded, and the Ravens and Chargers appear to be poised to battle it out for the AFC title.  Not to mention, the Colts will be there again, and road playoff games are awfully tough to win in the NFL.

Does this mean that New England Patriots tickets will not be historic this season, based on all of the above?  It’s WAY too early to make that determination.  The Patriots have come through a season that was difficult in many ways, but in the NFL, it only takes a couple of pieces to contend.

The Patriots have those pieces.  They have what many consider to be the best coach in the NFL in Bill Bellicheck and the best QB in Tom Brady.  Much the same way as teams of the past that included Joe Montana, Bill Walsh, Brett Favre in his prime and others, the Patriots are always a threat with these two, and they should never be discounted.

Overall, no team wants to face the Patriots, even at home.  Stay tuned, as the team is going to make noise in the playoffs.

New England Patriots Playoff Prospects

December 28, 2006

The New England Patriots will be going to the playoffs. This is a certainty. Just who they will be playing remains up for grabs. Either way, fans can purchase New England Patriots Playoff Tickets through Stubhub.com. The New England Patriots will take on the Tennessee Titans this weekend but the Patriots managed to clinch the AFC East with last-weekend’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. This means that the Patriots can start thinking about a fourth Super Bowl in as many as six years. This is going to be quite the daunting task, given that the Patriots will likely have to go up against the Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers of Baltimore Ravens if they plan on making it all the way to the Super Bowl again.

Tom Brady

The Titans are looking to keep their improbably post-season bid alive this weekend with a win over the Patriots. Tennessee, with a record of 8-7, lost the first five games of the season and is looking to become the first team in history to make the playoffs after dropping to such a dismal record at the start of the season. Come from behind wins and improbable victories are things that the Titans have become accustomed to this season and they have won six straight coming into this weekend against the Patriots. Tom Brady declared that he intends to play this weekend, rather than sitting out to get some rest for the post-season.

New England Patriots vs. Tennessee Titans

December 26, 2006

The 11-4 New England Patriots will take on the 8-7 Tennessee Titans at LP Field on New Years Eve. The 2006 AFC East Division Champion Patriots already have their ticket to the playoffs, and are looking to close out the 2006 season on a positive note while also keeping their starters healthy for the post-season. The Titans have won six straight games coming into this weekend’s match-up and is facing a must-win situation if they hope to keep their post-season desires alive.

Tom Brady of the Patriots

The Patriots managed to hold on against a determined Jacksonville Jaguars squad this past weekend to secure the AFC East title and a trip to the playoffs. The past two weekends, against the Jaguars and then Texans two weeks ago, allowed the Patriots the chance to flex their December muscle and show the rest of the league what may be in store for January. Tom Brady is up for the FedEx NFL Player of the week award for his performance last weekend, completing 28 of 39 passes for one touchdown and no interceptions.
