Kight Latest Example of How Performance Matters in New England

The Patriots are credited with establishing a new model of roster building in the NFL.  This strategy has allowed them to build the latest NFL dynasty, and an item in the Boston Globe today serves as yet another example of how the Patriots tend to look past combine workouts, 40-yard-dash times and hype when deciding who’s going to play and who isn’t.

WR Kelvin Kight has been moving up the depth chart in New England, and he made his first start last week against Jacksonville.  Kight has bounced around the league a bit after coming into the NFL in 2004 as an undrafted free agent, but his “status” has not prevented the coaching staff from giving him a shot.

This is just one example of why the Patriots are the gold standard of the NFL.  It doesn’t matter to them where a player comes from or how much recognition he receives in college or with his prior team.  If he can play and contribute, he will play and contribute.  If more teams around the NFL looked at production as a priority, there would be less mediocrity.  As it stands now, playoff tickets will once again be available in New England, and that’s not an accident.
