Moss is a Patriot

One of the biggest trades made during the draft was the New England Patriots’ gain of Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders. The Patriots gave up their fourth round pick in exchange and promise to cut Moss if any attitude issues overshadow his playing capabilities. Moss is said to be in favor of the trade and agreed to a pay cut signing a one year contract.

Moss was scheduled to receive $9.7 million through his original contract with the Raiders. The Patriots did not want to fit that into their salary cap so Moss agreed to a new contractworth $3 million with an added $2 million in incentives. He was not the only one to restructure his contract, as quarterback Tom Brady made some sacrifices for the team. According to the Boston Globe Brady restructured his contract in order for the Patriots to afford Moss. Agent Don Yee was quoted, “Tom does what he can in order to win.”

Moss complimented his new quarterback Sunday after the trade took place, “I’ve always been a big fan of Tom Brady from the time that he took over the starting job from Drew Bledsoe, I knew that was a blessing [for] Tom.” The Patriots have a bright future for the the 2007-08 NFL season and will be holding a mini-camp this week.
