The late Ron Burton was a New England Patriots legend on and off the field. That’s why he’s among just three other New England greats up for the next induction into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame. “Ron always talked about caring,” said his wife JoAnn Burton. “His whole life was based on caring, and how you treat other people, and caring and loving. And I think this is the way the caring is being shown back. That’s just a whole other level. He made an impression. People really cared about him, and they still do today.”
It’s exactly that type of character that we need on our professional athletic fields. Our Hall of Fame committees would be wise to keep in mind that our sports heroes are humans too; not just athletes. They serve as some of the biggest, most impacting role models our youth know. We need more of our pros leaving an indelible mark both on the gridiron and the streets. You’ve got to remind yourself, fifth-graders can name more professional athletes than they can presidents or philanthropists. Think hard and make your choice of who shall be the next Famer. Be sure to place your vote online before August 1st. Get your New England Patriots tickets from StubHub.com, and watch for future Hall of Famers.
