According to a report today on boston.com, Chad Jackson’s ACL injury is healing nicely. So nicely in fact, that Jackson may in fact be ready to play in the Patriots’ season opener. Jackson injured his knee during the AFC Championship game last year against the eventual Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts, and the time between his injury and the beginning of the season would generally mean he would head directly for the injured reserve list. But word is that both the Pats and Jackson would like that to be a last resort.
The real question now becomes “Does New England need Chad Jackson?” They loaded up at wide receiver in the off season. Jackson’s rookie year was uneven at best, but the fact remains that he could very well dodge the injured reserve list. Of course, he could also very well end up not making the team and just become another NFL casualty. His future will most likely hinge upon how things shake down in spring training. And Jackson is not expected to be 100% for any of spring training. So take from that what you will.
