Patriots Beat ‘72 Dolphins (in Madden)

ESPN.com put together a great little dream match-up pitting the New England Patriots against the 1972 Miami Dolphins.  Those Dolphins were of course the only team in NFL history to run the table all the way to an undefeated season and Lombardi Trophy.  The Patriots, already 14-0, are being crowned the greatest team of all time by everyone and their mother, and with a game this Sunday that almost no one is taking seriously, I guess ESPN.com just thought this was a more compelling game, even if it was only truly happening in our imaginations.

While I see the point and I think the idea of the Pats playing the 1972 Dolphins is great, I’m not sure the Patriots should be looking past anyone right now.  The Dolphins just finally won a game, and while nobody on the outside is taking the game seriously, I can almost guarantee you that the Patriots surely are.  They’re preparing for this game like it’s the Super Bowl, and they will likely come out and try to annihilate the ‘Fins as quickly as possible on their way to yet another victory.  You don’t get to 14-0 by looking past opponents, and I don’t expect the Patriots to make that mistake this Sunday.
