Patriots Can’t Yet Re-Sign Moss

According to this article from ESPN.com that actually isn’t about Tom Brady’s ankle, a contractual technicality will keep the New England Patriots from re-signing Randy Moss until he enters free agency.  The Patriots could put the Franchise Player tag on Moss, but after the issues they had last year with Asante Samuel, they may be remiss to actually go through the same thing again with such a high profile player.  Apparently, due to the reworking of Randy Moss’s contract when he came to New England, the Patriots cannot actually give him an extension on this current contract.  Full details are available in the article.

This could be an issue if it were happening to any organization that wasn’t the New England Patriots.  The phrase “the grass is always greener on the other side” applies to literally every single NFL team except the Patriots.  Moss is already on record as saying that he would love to finish his career as a New England Patriot.  He seems to have the support of all his teammates, and I can think of at least one future Hall of Fame quarterback who would absolutely love to see Randy Moss back in the line-up.  I don’t think Mr. Moss is going anywhere this offseason.
