Yesterday, according to reports on EPSN.com, Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft made the rounds to apologize for Spygate while the owner’s meeting was underway. Given an opportunity to address nearly every high-ranking NFL official on the matter all at once, both Kraft and Belichick addressed the entire room. The team President’s speech was seen as a heartfelt attempt to offer up a contrite apology, and was met by applause. Belichick stood and said he accepted the penalty. He then assured the room that since the Jets game, the Patriots have changed their policy toward any type of team taping.
This is yet another warm and fuzzy closing chapter (hopefully) to what has been a horrible black eye on the NFL for nearly a year now. This entire situation has been so hairy from the very beginning, but I believe this story illuminates the fact that the NFL can police its own matters, and absolutely never needed any from the the Senate to get involved. The Patriots broke the rules. They were punished very harshly with the loss of a first round draft pick, not to mention fined nearly a million dollars. And now, the Patriots are very sorry that they ever cheated, and I’d be surprised if this is ever an issue for the team again. Case closed.

According to Bill Belichick, there are no new Spygate revelations forthcoming. The generally silent coach said a few words about the scandal that has plagued the Patriots for nearly an entire year at this point. His take on the situation was fairly simple. He said that there would be no new information about the issue, and that the worst of it was now behind him and the team. He also revealed that during his silence he has actually spoken to the Commissioner of the NFL yet again in response to the new allegations from former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh.
This story has been dormant for awhile, but these new stories of Patriots’ employees speaking with Commissioner Goodell seem to hold a certain meaning to them that underlies the superficial story. What this means is that the NFL has interviewed the men who they felt may have had more information to give about possible tapes and other information, they interviewed these men and they were happy with the information gleaned from said interviews. I would be quite surprised if this story continues to have legs as the offseason drags on.
