Well, I said it wouldn’t take the Patriots long to deal with the Willie Andrews situation, and they certainly proved me right this time. The Patriots cut Andrews from the team only a day after his arrest for allegedly pointing a gun at his girlfriend. It actually took the Patriots less time to cut Andrews than it has taken me to report that they have cut Andrews, which is a testament to the high standard of excellence held by this time. The Pats, for all the hardship they’ve had to endure recently, are certainly not a group of thugs.
Andrews was a special teams contributor, and every member of the team is important, but sometimes a team must do what they feel must be done to set the proper tone and example for the rest of the players. While some misconduct is a gray area and can be open to interpretation, the allegations of pointing a gun at a woman in the heat of passion are not to be taken at all lightly. No professional could expect to behave in such a way and keep his or her job. Hopefully Andrews can get his act together and get back to football after he gets some help.
