It appears that yet another saga of the Patriots offseason is about to come to an end. Kevin Faulk pleaded no contest to charges stemming from an arrest at a Lil Wayne concert. Faulk, a Louisiana native and an LSU graduate, received a five-month suspended sentence, one year of supervised probation, 40 hours of community service to be served in the form of anti-drug lectures to students at Lafayette Parish middle and high schools and 20 hours of NFL-approved substance-abuse treatment. Faulk will obviously gladly serve his sentence.
It’s good that this is out the way now. I harp on the fact that this dead period of the offseason is the best time for players and teams to tie up all loose ends and get ready for the new season. Kevin Faulk has done just that. He has handled this the right way from the very beginning. In doing so, he has kept his job - not to mention the respect of his fellow players, the coaches, the front office brass and the fans - as he deals with this unfortunate incident. Faulk is to be commended for the way he has handled this issue.
