Tom Brady probably would not have played in the Patriots’ fourth preseason game even if he were completely healthy. The signal caller sat out New England’s preseason contest against the Giants last night, a 19-14 Giants win. Rookie QB Kevin O’Connell played very well in limited playing time, throwing and running for a touchdown. The defense struggled to stop Giants’ backup David Carr, yes former number one overall selection David Carr. Carr went 20-29 for 192 yards and two scores. The fourth preseason game is really a contest between backups and guys trying to secure one of the few rosters spots remaining.
Brady will see his first game action since the Super Bowl next week when the regular season kicks off. There is bound to be a little rust, but probably not enough to worry about. The Patriots have not had the best preseason luck, and the team has not performed very well in the preseason games, even when the first teams have been on the field. The offense has Brady’s absence as an excuse, but the defense has looked porous and the special teams has looked atrocious. If this was most other teams, fans would be nervous, but you know the Pats will right the ship when the games start to count.
