Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is planning on playing in the team’s season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Brady hasn’t played in a single preseason game, but has been practicing with the team all the while. Brady said that while he is planning on starting the opener, he is not guaranteeing anything. “If it’s up to me, there’s no question,” he said. “But those questions aren’t always up to me. I’ve been getting progressively better over the last couple of weeks. I’m excited, excited to start the year.” Brady remains confident that he’s healthy enough to go and has been held out of the preseason for precautionary reasons. “I felt like I could play all of them and I practiced the entire preseason, pretty much,” he said. “The decision was made that, ‘OK, Tom, you’re not going to play,’ and I was fine with it.”
Brady is the kind of player who doesn’t need to play in preseason games. Most people think there are too many preseason games and that veterans don’t really need the extra practice. Brady is plenty familiar with the offense and with his teammates. His health is critical to the team’s hopes of returning to the Super Bowl for another shot at the title this season.
