It seems as if Josh McDaniels and Scott Pioli started a trend for the New England Patriots. Ever since the two power figures from New England left the ranks of Bill Belichick for Denver and Kansas City, respectively, the team has been involved in a sort of jigsaw puzzle, fitting the pieces together to rebuild the Patriots dynasty. The most recent authority figure from New England to depart Foxborough? Dom Capers. The secondary coach was with the Patriots for just one season, and he will now travel to Lambeau Field to join the Green Bay Packers as defensive coordinator.
Capers was perhaps overqualified for his job as the Pats secondary coach/special assistant, which he accepted last year after replacing Joel Collier. Before joining New England’s forces, Capers was a special assistant and then defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins in 2006 and 2007, which he came to after serving four years as head coach for the Houston Texans and three years as head coach of the Carolina Panthers. The new Packers D-coordinator is from Cambridge, Ohio, and was a linebacker/safety for Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, before starting his coaching career at Kent State University. Capers joined the NFL in 1986 as a defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints.
