This just in: the New England Patriots have unveiled their newest changes for next season, and this one doesn’t even involve Tom Brady! The Pats will celebrate their 50th season anniversary on November 16, 2009, and to commemorate 50 years of intense football action the team has adopted an anniversary logo to be used on all of the Patriots’ anniversary activities, press announcements and publications in 2009. This new logo will temporarily take the spotlight off the current Patriots logo, which is a figure that looks to be a flying Elvis in red, white and blue. The anniversary logo features the current Patriots logo as well as the words “New England Patriots 50 Seasons” in red, white and blue, and it also incorporates the old Patriots mascot Pat Patriot, which is more of an actual figurine instead of just a head.
The 50th anniversary of the New England Patriots is a big one, as the team started playing as the Boston Patriots in the AFL in 1959 as the eighth and final AFL team. The Patriots became known as the New England Patriots in 1970 when the franchise moved them to Foxborough, Massachusetts to play at Schaefer Stadium, and the rest is history.
