Running back Sammy Morris had great success with the New England Patriots in the 2008 NFL season, bouncing back from a season-ending injury in 2007 to lead the Patriots in rushing this past season. The San Antonio, Texas native has been using his talents both on and off the football field lately, and Morris’ contributions to both football and the community have won him the Ed Block Courage Award for the New England Patriots. The award goes to one player on each NFL team (voted on by the team’s players) who has been an inspiration, and this year it will be Sammy Morris who will attend the Ed Block Courage Awards this year in Baltimore as New England’s selection for the honor.
When he’s not making moves down the football field, Sammy Morris can often be found helping the community. The former Texas Tech player has donated his time and resources to charity/community events such as “Athletes in Action” and a summer reading program called “Hit the Books,” and Morris has also been seen at the bone marrow transplant center at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts University and has hosted a football camp in Lubbock, Texas.
