In a Scramble for Coaches, Pioli and McDaniels Could Go

Over the course of the last week, the Denver Broncos have fired head coach Mike Shanahan. The winless Detroit Lions fired coach Rod Marinelli. The Cleveland Browns fired Romeo Crennel, and the New York Jets also fired Eric Mangini. Four teams in the NFL are now without head coaches, and the scramble is on to pick up new shining figures to regroup these faltering teams. Amid the whirlwind of names being tossed out into the open for who will fill these shoes, two men behind the woodworks of the New England Patriots are being considered.

The first is Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is in his eighth season in the NFL and also with the Patriots. Both Denver and Cleveland have requested permission to interview McDaniels, who has experience with offense and quarterbacks. The other New England affiliate to be considered for a coaching job in the 2009-2010 NFL season is vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli, who has already been offered the top football executive position for the Cleveland Browns. Pioli has also been hounded by the Kansas City Chiefs and reportedly the Denver Broncos, although nothing is finalized at this point. Stay tuned for all the dirt on swapping coaches!
