Wilfork Here to Stay

If the New England Patriots had a theme song, it would be Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “Takin’ Care of Business.” The Pats have signed eight veteran free agents so far in the free agency and have a league-high 11 picks for this weekend’s NFL Draft, securing the replacements of the few players Bill Belichick has let go in the offseason. Among those suited up in Patriots gear and looking to stay in New England for the long term is defensive lineman Vince Wilfork, who will become a free agent following the 2009 NFL season. The veteran nose tackle recently came out to the media that he wished to return with the Patriots once his contract is over, but Wilfork is patiently waiting for this season’s roster to be finalized before asking about next year’s.

Wilfork, a Patriot since 2004 when he was plucked from University of Miami, recently made a statement via the Boston Herald, saying, “I’m just looking forward to another great season. They know how I feel about it. They know I want to be a Patriot. I want to start my career as a Patriot and finish as one. I’ve said it from Day One. I meant that sincerely, so I think it’ll work out. I think everything will work for the best.”
