Hoyer, Undrafted Free Agents to Join Patriots Squad

On March 27, we reported that Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer was scheduled to work out with the New England Patriots in the days following the post. The Patriots were also seen shopping around for other college quarterbacks set to join the NFL in the days and weeks preceding the draft, and it was announced yesterday that Hoyer will indeed join the ranks of Bill Belichick and Co. for the ’09 season.

Hoyer was not selected in the NFL Draft, but reports confirm that he will join the Patriots as an undrafted free agent, heading to Foxborough for minicamp this weekend. Hoyer spoke recently of his new gig with New England, saying, “While it would have been great to get drafted, I’m looking forward to joining the New England Patriots. They made it clear to me that I’ll have an opportunity to compete, and I’m honored that such a great franchise will give me that chance.”

Other undrafted free agents to join the Patriots following last weekend’s draft include Antonio Appleby, a linebacker out of Virginia; Jamar Love, a cornerback out of Arkanses; and Marcus McClinton, a safety from Kentucky.
