Vince Wilfork’s no-show status at the New England Patriots’ organized team activities (OTAs) proved that he meant business when it came down to renewing his contract, which the defensive lineman is currently in the last year of. Wilfork isn’t the only player in the last year of his contract, however, and now another name has emerged singing a song to the same tune of Wilfork’s: Richard Seymour. The veteran defensive lineman is also entering the last year of his four-year deal with the Patriots and nothing has yet happened to renew his contract, leaving his future with the team up in the air. Seymour has recently come out of the woodworks to address his wishes to renew his contract with New England, and when asked if he’d like to continue playing with the Patriots, he said, “Absolutely, but like I said, it has to be mutual. It takes two to tango. We’ll let that situation play itself out. The only thing I can control is what I can control.”
Richard Seymour has been a Patriot ever since he joined the NFL in the sixth round of the 2001 draft, coming to New England from the University of Georgia. Seymour signed a six-year deal with the Patriots but was displeased with his monetary earnings in 2005, holding out of the team’s training camp before getting a pay hike, signing a four-year, $30 million contract with the team in 2006. Now that he’s in the last year of his contract, Seymour is (like Wilfork) looking toward the future.
