Pats Fall to McDaniels’ Broncos in Week 5

The New England Patriots played a hard-fought battle against the Denver Broncos yesterday in one of the most memorable games of Week 5 action, but ultimately Bill Belichick’s Patriots fell to former mentee Josh McDaniel’s Broncos in overtime. The Broncos slid past the Patriots in overtime thanks to Matt Prater’s 41-yard field goal, and Denver came out with a 20-17 win over New England, handing the Patriots their second loss of the regular season.

Following up the quote from McDaniels we reported last Thursday, the Denver head coach explained his downplay of the game after yesterday’s win, as McDaniels said, “I lied. It was a little bit more special to me because I knew how hard it was to beat him.” Indeed, yesterday’s loss marked the first time in Tom Brady’s career that he’s lost a game in overtime, now harboring a 7-1 record with OT games. On the flip side, at least the Patriots lost to a very good team this season. The Broncos are now 5-0 for the first time in franchise history. Don’t expect this loss to keep the Patriots down, however. The team faces the winless Tennessee Titans next week, so stay tuned for more.
