Junior Seau Will Join the Patriots in ‘09

After more than a week of speculation, it’s all but been confirmed that veteran linebacker Junior Seau will sign a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, bringing him aboard the Bill Belichick Express in the next couple weeks. The agreement hasn’t yet been confirmed by officials because the Patriots haven’t yet cleared room on their roster for the former Charger, but, as Patriots owner Robert Kraft said yesterday, “At some point, he will be (on the team). He’s a unique individual with a unique physical frame and mental acumen. I’d love to have him (be) part of our team as long as he wants.”

And he does want the job. Seau went public with this desire last week, saying that he’d like to play for the Patriots again, and now it looks like the linebacker will get that chance. 2009-10 will mark Junior Seau’s 20th season with the NFL, though most of it has been with the San Diego Chargers. In the midst of injuries in New England last year, however, Seau signed a late-season deal with the Patriots and capped the season by playing in the Pats’ last four games, marking his third year playing at Gillette Stadium. What will he accomplish for the Patriots this year? Stay tuned to find out!
