No one can argue with Tom Brady’s magnificent performance last week as the New England Patriots stomped all over the Tennessee Titans and came out with a 59-0 win, but what about that other quarterback in the AFC East? You know, the rookie in green and white? Mark Sanchez, a staple for the New York Jets, has also posted some outstanding numbers this year, and here’s how the two AFC East quarterbacks stack up against each other.
Touchdowns
Brady - 12
Sanchez - 5

Brady - 2
Sanchez - 10

Brady - 1,724
Sanchez - 1,035

Brady - 99.0
Sanchez - 56.7

Patriots - 4-2
Jets - 3-3
It looks like Tom Brady’s still got what it takes to make it rain on the football field, and even if Mark Sanchez is one of the most outstanding rookies in the league, he’s still got a ways to go if he wants to catch up to Brady’s stats. Of course, when it comes to teams as a whole Brady also has a better crew of militiamen backing him up, and that could be part of his outstanding numbers. Don’t forget the Jets beat the Patriots already this season, though, so anything could happen with the AFC East this season as the weeks play on.

“Ask Bill.” That seems to bee linebacker Adalius Thomas’ answer for everything these days. Or at least his answer to why Bill Belichick benched the two-time Pro Bowler last week for the New England Patriots - Tennessee Titans game. Thomas was benched as a healthy player for the first time in his career last week to make room for Derrick Burgess and Rob Ninkovich to play at linebacker, leaving Thomas to watch his team’s 59-0 win from home.
While it has to be painful for Adalius Thomas to be a mere spectator in his beloved sport last week, the linebacker told media this week he’s fine with it. “I come to work,” he said. “I do what I’m asked to do, and whatever decision that Bill makes, I respect that from a player’s standpoint to a coach. Whether I agree with it or not is something totally different. It’s not about me. It’s about the Patriots versus Tampa right now. It’s not about me.”
Diverting his attention to this weekend’s game in London between the Patriots and the Buccaneers, Adalius Thomas has left one big question unanswered: will he be starting this weekend’s game at Wembley Stadium? Stay tuned to find out!

The mighty New England Patriots are ready to take on Josh Johnson and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7 of the regular season, but this weekend’s game marks one of a different variation, as this Sunday’s New England-Tampa Bay matchup will be watched internationally, with the Pats and Bucs squaring off against each other in London at Wembley Stadium. The internationally-played game is part of the growing tradition the NFL is establishing at Wembley Stadium, and it’s sure to be one of the most-watched games of the season.
The Patriots will jet to England this Friday, two days before playing the Buccaneers at Wembley, giving both teams just hours to overcome jetlag before playing across the pond. Of this weekend’s big game in London, Tom Brady said, “It’s a long flight but we’ll be prepared for it. We’ll have our energy and we’ll be ready to go by the time the ball kicks off.” Sounds like more like a promise than a plan, so stick around for more as the London situation pans out this weekend at Wembley Stadium!

The Herald reported and the New England Patriots later confirmed that they released the 37-year-old Joey Galloway today. The 15-year veteran was signed as a free agent before the season to provide the Patriots with a solid third receiver option behind Randy Moss and Wes Welker. However, Galloway never got adjusted with the offense and was a health scratch in the last three games for New England. It was the first time in his career that a team had him as a health scratch. The wide receiver had seven catches for 67 yards in three games for the Pats. The veteran has had an excellent career, totaling 689 receptions for 10,777 yards and 77 touchdowns. New England cut Galloway “before the 4 p.m. trade deadline, the Patriots perhaps paved the way for him to land with a team of his choice as he will not be subject to waivers.” The Pats also released linebackers Tully Banta-Cain and Eric Alexander and tight end Michael Matthews. Matthews was acquired from the New York Giants for a conditional 2011 draft pick. He played in four games this season and does not have a reception. Alexander was released, but expects the Pats to re-sign him to a long-term deal. Banta-Cain said he would be back in the lineup and called the experience “Kinda crazy.”

New England quarterback Tom Brady threw six touchdown passes (five in one quarter), and the Patriots dismantled the Tennessee Titans with a 59-0 win on Sunday. Brady threw those five TDs in the second quarter and his team enjoyed the biggest halftime lead in league history, 45-0. “And the 59-point margin matched the largest since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970, the Los Angeles Rams’ 59-0 win over the Atlanta Falcons in 1976.” After the game Brady told the press that each game they play, the Patriots are learning something about themselves. The quarterback continued to say that the game against the Titans gave his team a lot of confidence. Brady went 29 of 34 for 380 yards while the Patriots (4-2) gained a club-record 619 yards. New England’s Wes Welker, who caught 10 passes for a career-high 150 yards and two touchdowns, proclaimed that Brady was “Back to his old self.” In the second quarter, Brady threw TD passes to Randy Moss of 40 and 28 yards, to Kevin Faulk of 38 yards, and to Welker of 30 and 5 yards. New England coach Bill Belichick said he knew the score got out of hand, but mentioned that the Patriots are just trying to run their offense.

After more than a week of speculation, it’s all but been confirmed that veteran linebacker Junior Seau will sign a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, bringing him aboard the Bill Belichick Express in the next couple weeks. The agreement hasn’t yet been confirmed by officials because the Patriots haven’t yet cleared room on their roster for the former Charger, but, as Patriots owner Robert Kraft said yesterday, “At some point, he will be (on the team). He’s a unique individual with a unique physical frame and mental acumen. I’d love to have him (be) part of our team as long as he wants.”
And he does want the job. Seau went public with this desire last week, saying that he’d like to play for the Patriots again, and now it looks like the linebacker will get that chance. 2009-10 will mark Junior Seau’s 20th season with the NFL, though most of it has been with the San Diego Chargers. In the midst of injuries in New England last year, however, Seau signed a late-season deal with the Patriots and capped the season by playing in the Pats’ last four games, marking his third year playing at Gillette Stadium. What will he accomplish for the Patriots this year? Stay tuned to find out!

Jerod Mayo made his return to the football field on Sunday as he helped the New England Patriots try to fend off the Denver Broncos, and even though the team ultimately succumbed to the force of Josh McDaniels and Co., Mayo’s return might have just been that silver lining the Patriots now need. Mayo, the 2008 AP Rookie of the Year, is one of the crucial parts of New England’s defense, and he’ll now see more playtime after recovering from spraining a medial collateral ligament in his right knee during the first game of the season.
Of Mayo’s return, nose tackle Vince Wilfork said, “He’s so young, and he was so eager to get back, and I was so happy for him from a big brother standpoint. Hopefully, he can stay healthy enough for us to win some ballgames.” The Patriots are counting on Jerod Mayo to make a full-fledged recovery on the football field in the upcoming weeks, especially as the team’s next three games are against the Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins. Stay tuned for more on the Mayo situation!

The New England Patriots played a hard-fought battle against the Denver Broncos yesterday in one of the most memorable games of Week 5 action, but ultimately Bill Belichick’s Patriots fell to former mentee Josh McDaniel’s Broncos in overtime. The Broncos slid past the Patriots in overtime thanks to Matt Prater’s 41-yard field goal, and Denver came out with a 20-17 win over New England, handing the Patriots their second loss of the regular season.
Following up the quote from McDaniels we reported last Thursday, the Denver head coach explained his downplay of the game after yesterday’s win, as McDaniels said, “I lied. It was a little bit more special to me because I knew how hard it was to beat him.” Indeed, yesterday’s loss marked the first time in Tom Brady’s career that he’s lost a game in overtime, now harboring a 7-1 record with OT games. On the flip side, at least the Patriots lost to a very good team this season. The Broncos are now 5-0 for the first time in franchise history. Don’t expect this loss to keep the Patriots down, however. The team faces the winless Tennessee Titans next week, so stay tuned for more.

Running back Fred Taylor has seen injuries before. In fact, hardly a season has passed since 1998 that he hasn’t sat out for at least one game. Though he’s discouraged by thinking people call him “Fragile Fred,” Taylor will once again resume a place on the sidelines this week during the Week 5 New England Patriots-Denver Broncos game, as a right ankle injury suffered during the end of last week’s game against the Ravens could require surgery.
The severity of Fred Taylor’s ankle injury is still being evaluated, but he’s been sitting out of practice and speculation is now arising about the possibility of surgery. Not giving anything away, however, Patriots spokesman Stacey James said he had received no notification that Taylor will require surgery. Taylor has been the top rushing running back for the Patriots this season, amassing 201 yards on 45 carries this season. He’s been rotated with Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk and Laurence Maroney at the position, and in his absence this week running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis could see ample play time. Of his several injuries through the years, Taylor has said, “I never really worried about the naysayers. I used it as motivation. When I would go behind closed doors, I’d work a little harder, thinking that they called me Fragile Fred. I knew I was never fragile. I had a little bit of misfortune, that’s about it.” Here’s to a speedy recovery!

Bill Belichick goes up against his protégé Josh McDaniels this weekend as the New England Patriots take on the Denver Broncos in Week 5 of regular season action, and this is sure to be one very intense battle, as the 4-0 Broncos are looking to improve that undefeated record while the 3-1 Patriots get back on steady footing. This will be the first time that former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will face his old team as a head coach, and even if it’s left unspoken, Sunday’s game is going to be a big one for both teams.
Though it may be something that’s understood, Josh McDaniels is acting as if Sunday’s Broncos-Patriots matchup is nothing out of the ordinary. “(The Patriots) are the next team on our schedule, number one,” the first-year head coach said. “We are not going to make any more of this game than what it is. It is our fifth game of the year. I think it is going to be a great challenge to play against one of the best franchises in this league and one of the best teams in the league with, certainly, what I think is the best coach in this league. Most of the things that we do with our football team in some way, shape or form, I get from Bill.” What will happen when McDaniels is reunited with Belichick on the other side? It’s all to come this Sunday!
